Structural Bodywork

What is Structural Bodywork?

Structural Bodywork is the organised application of Myofascial Release techniques on the whole body in a cycle of 3 weekly sessions.

Structural Bodywork is a form of advanced bodywork designed to improve posture, balance and unravel the root patterns of associated chronic pain and dysfunctions.

Structural Bodywork uses Myofascial Release techniques aimed to adjust tension in specific areas of the fascial network and change the relationship between body segments in order to bring better support and efficiency of movement.

This type of bodywork is designed to give the body more options for movement in order to come out of bad postural habits that may have been developed over a long period of time.

postural assessment

Patients often report a better sense of grounding and a better sense of lift.

They feel more ‘back in their bodies’ with improved balance and contact with the floor and a significant reduction of pain and discomfort.

Structural Bodywork is also a great way to improve your body awareness and rediscover areas of the body that have been forgotten for a long time.

The 3 Sessions

#1

Focuses on the lower body and your relationship with the ground. The goal of the session is to find a better support for your upper body and give you both a better sense of grounding and lift.

#2

Focuses on the upper body and the relationship between the upper and lower body. The goal of the session is to improve your breathing, balance your shoulders and your ribcage on top of your lower body.

#3

Ffocuses on the spine, the head and the deeper structures that connect your upper and lower body to connect the two.

What to expect during a session?

Although hands-on treatments might look very similar your experience of a Structural bodywork session will be radically different from any other massage session.

10 MIN
Initial Assessment

Every session starts with a short interview followed by a thorough visual assessment that will allow me to understand your current structural and functional strategies, observing how you stand and how you move in order to make a plan of action for the session.

50 MIN
Treatment and Re-assessments

This is where most of the manual work happens. The techniques I perform may require you to lay in different positions or to sit down on a stool. While I manipulate the tissue I may ask you to either perform a simple movement or just relax.

During this phase I may also ask you to get off the table to re-assess your posture and monitor the change.

The Sympathetic Nervous System (which activates the flight or fight response) will be stimulated in this phase and the intensity of the manipulation will vary from mild to very intense. My aim is to keep the level of intensity high enough to produce a significant change within your levels of tolerance

10 MIN
Session Integration

The last few techniques will be more relaxing. In this phase I will stimulate the Parasympathetic Nervous System (which activates the rest and digest response) to bring your whole system down into a deeper state of relaxation and allow all the stimuli to sink and be more easily absorbed by the brain. They translated into automatic movements in the future

5 MIN
Final Assessment

At the end of the session I will ask you to stand up once more to give you a chance to explore and take some time to notice any changes that you might perceive

FAQ's

You can easily book an appointment online at this link or send a message through the website. For specific time slot requests and last minute appointments you can also send a text to 07535883471

While I do not have direct billing agreements with specific insurance providers, some clients are able to obtain partial or full reimbursement through their own private medical insurance.

You can submit my invoices directly to your insurer and check whether your policy covers treatment provided by an FHT-registered therapist.

If your insurance plan includes therapies such as sports massage or deep tissue massage, it will often also cover myofascial release, although this depends on your individual policy.

I recommend contacting your insurer in advance to confirm eligibility and reimbursement terms.

To help the session run smoothly and allow access to key areas of the body, please:

  • Wear appropriate undergarments — a sports bra and opaque underwear are ideal

  • Sports bra straps may sit on the shoulders but should be loose enough to be gently moved aside during treatment

  • Choose non-restrictive bra and waistband elastics; avoid tight or compressive garments

  • Avoid applying body or face lotions before your appointment

You will always be appropriately draped, and the session is adapted to your comfort and boundaries.

Shower normally and please do NOT wear any face or body lotion.

It is usually better to receive treatment on an empty stomach.

Last-minute appointments occasionally become available due to cancellations.

You can:

  • Referral thank-you: you will receive £30 off the full rate or £10 off the discounted rate for each new client you refer who completes a booking.

  • Loyalty program: I participate in SumUp Local, which offers loyalty rewards. To access this, you’ll need to download the SumUp app and register your preferred payment card.

  • Session packages: I offer a 12-session package for the price of 10 designed for clients committing to deeper, longer-term change. Not available for discounted rates.

Discounts are not cumulative unless stated.

This varies depending on your situation. Many clients attend for a short series of sessions focused on a specific issue. Others choose longer-term work for complex or long-standing patterns.

Most people come weekly for a short period of time with the aim to create change that holds between sessions. Frequency is then gradually reduced to 3-6 weeks apart to maintain the results and integrate the change in their every day movement.

I’ll always discuss spacing and expectations with you honestly.
